Herpes
– Genital Herpes: an acute recurring incurable viral disease.
– two types: Type 1 HSV 1 and type 2 HSV 2
– Either type can produce oral or genital lesions through oral-genital contact.
– incubation period is 2 to 20 days with the average period being 1 week.
– itching or tingliong sensation maybe felt in the skin 1 to 2 days before an outbreak.
– the sensation is then followed by the appearance of vesicles (blister in a typical cluster)
on the penis, scrotum, vulva, perineum, vagina, cervix, or perinea region.
– the blisters rupture spontaneously in a day or two and leave painful erosions.
HSV1
– causes non-genital lesions
– cold sores
HSV2
– causes most of the genital lesionsui7
INTERVENTIONS:
– Treatment for HSVinfected clients is usually symptomatic
– the goal of management are to decrease the discomfort from painful ulcerations
– teach the clients about recurrence.
Drug Therapy:
– Antiviral Drugs are used to treat GH, The drugs do not cure the infection, but
do decrease the severity, promote healing, and decrease the frequency of recurrent outbreaks
– Acyclovir and famiclovir maybe used
