Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA)
Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA)
– Is usually performed in order to open a blocked coronary artery which is usually caused by coronary artery disease (CAD). It is also done to restore arterial blood flow to the heart tissue without open-heart surgery.
Remember for the NCLEX that a special catheter (long hollow tube) is inserted into the coronary artery to be treated.
