Appendicitis

Location of the appendix: attached to the cecum in the right lower abdomen.

– It usually starts as epigastric pain and then moves into the right lower quadrant.

  • This area is called the Mcburney’s Point

Remember: ♣ No Laxatives or Enemas w/ ct’s with appendicitis, because it cause perforation.

Assessment/ Symptoms

  • low grade fever
  • nausea and vomiting.

Diagnosis:

  • There is an elevated white blood cell count
  • There will be some bowel distention.

 

Procedures:

– ◊ Apendectomy

Pre Op: Administer analgesics, IV Fluids and antibiotics

– The patient can be discharges the same day or the next day.
