Types of Cirrhosis
– Laennec’s Portal Cirrhosis
- most common type: due to alcoholism.
– Biliary Cirrhosis
- results from chronic biliary obstruction and infection
– Post Necrotic Cirrhosis
- Usually is a result from a previous hepatitis infection.
Complications of Cirrhosis can include
- Esophageal Varices
- Portal Hypertension
- Hepatic Encephalopathy
- Ascites ( ♥ Assess for Ineffective Breathing Pattern)
ASCITES:
- The patient might a Laveen Shunt
- Paracentesis procedure
Esophageal Varices
- Blakemore Tube
- Portocaval Shunt
Hepatic Encephalopathy
goes in 4 stages
Assessment: Asterexis, Fetor Hepaticus
Treatment: Pruritis, Blakemore and Lavage, Lo Protien diet
