– Cancer of the Colon or rectum.
- CAUSES/FACTORS
- DIET WITH HIGH LEVELS OF FATS, FRIED FOODS AND REFINED CARBS
Assessment
- CHANGE IN STOOL (CONSISTENCY, COLOR)
- RECTAL BLEEDING, ANEMIA
- MAHOGANY COLORED OR BRIGHT COLORED STOOLS
APPENDICITIS
– Location of the appendix: attached to the cecum in the right lower abdomen.
– It usually starts as epigastric pain and then moves into the right lower quadrant.
- THIS AREA IS CALLED THE MCBURNEY’S POINT
Remember: ♣ No Laxatives or Enemas w/ ct’s with appendicitis, because it cause perforation.
Assessment/ Symptoms
- LOW GRADE FEVER
- NAUSEA AND VOMITING.
Diagnosis:
- THERE IS AN ELEVATED WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT
- THERE WILL BE SOME BOWEL DISTENTION.
Procedures:
– ◊ Apendectomy
Pre Op: Administer analgesics, IV Fluids and antibiotics
– The patient can be discharges the same day or the next day.
