Hematologic System
The Blood is composed of several primary components
- RBC (red blood cells/erythrocytes)
- WBC (white blood cells/ erythrocytes
- Platelets (thrombocytes)
Hematopoiesis– the process of the replenishing in the supply of blood within the body.
- – The primary site for hematopoeisis is the bone marrow.
- CBC (Complete Blood Count)
- RBC’s= 4.2-6.1 mil g/dl
- HGB= 11.5- 17.5 g/dl
- HCT= 36%- 52%
Hematological Diseases
B Thalassemia Major
– reduced production of one of the globin chains in the synthesis of hemoglobin.
– A malignancy of the lymph nodes.
- Hodkin’s Lymphoma
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Nephroblastoma (Wilm’s Tumor)
– intrabdominal & kidney tumor in childhood.
