Primary Factors for Osteoporosis
> 60 yrs. (post-menopausal women)
Family Hx of osteoporosis
White or Asian women
Thin, lean body build
Decrease life time Calcium intake
Decrease Estrogen
Decreased Androgen
History of smoking
Increased Alcohol consumption
Decreased physical activity and prolonged immobility

Medications:

corticosteroids
Heparin
Anticonvulsants

Assessment
-Kyphosis (curving of the spine)
– Height had been shorted 2-3 inches over 20 yrs.
– C/o back pain
– Restriction of movements
– May have a fear of falling (Fallophobia)
-decreased bone mass
-decreased Calcium
