Osteomyelitis
Osteomyelitis- infection stimulates inflammatory response in bone tissue;

-Inflammation = thrombosis = bone tissue ischemia; dead tissue separates from surrounding tissue (sequestrum)
*Sequestrum decreased bone healing and increases infection rate*

Assessment
Chronic Osteomyelitis: findings are:
– Ulcers on the skin
– Sinus tract formation
– localized pain
– bone pain, constant localized and pulsating that is exacerbated with movement

TREATMENT
**Drug therapy- IV ANTIBIOTICS**
Surgical Management:
-Sequestrectomy- debridement of infected bone tissue
– Bone grafts
– Bone segment Transplants
– Amputation
